In his diary entry of May 13, 1667, Samuel Pepys writes that " Sir H. Chomly... tells me that he hears that we are by agreement to give the King of France Nova Scotia."

Samuel Pepys (pronounced “Peeps”) is famous for the diary he kept in the 1660's. His firsthand accounts of the Great London Fire, the Black Plague, and daily events in the government and at Court are alive with detail.

Pepys was the Chief Secretary to the Admiralty under King Charles II at this time.
